The AE500 is a new compact stand-mount loudspeaker from our flagship 500 Series. Following on from the award winning AE100 and AE300, the AE500 offers a significant step up in audio quality, materials, and cabinet finish. The 500 Series features our newly developed carbon fibre tweeter and mid/bass drivers, designed to match the pistonic power and accuracy of our legendary ceramic aluminium drivers but with improved self-damping for a smoother, more transparent sound.

Finished in a choice of Piano Gloss Black, Piano Gloss White or American Walnut wood veneer finishes, the AE500 will easily integrate within any home décor placed on speaker stands or bookshelves.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
TWEETER
Our 500 Series tweeter features a brand new 25mm carbon fibre dome. Carbon fibre is much lighter and better damped than other typical hard dome materials and provides a lightning fast, natural sound which will surprise the listener with its neutrality. The new cast aluminium WDT waveguide on the high frequency driver is positioned close to the mid/bass driver for optimum dispersion and is extremely stiff to reduce vibration being passed to the tweeter, ensuring sweet, clear and natural highs.
DRIVERS
The 125mm mid/bass driver includes a new oversized 35mm voice coils for low thermal compression and very high motor force factor, to provide a highly dynamic yet controlled bass response. The woofer has an optimised motor and suspension system for maximum linearity and lowest distortion ensuring mid-range definition, whilst the lightweight nature of the carbon fibre cone material increases transient speed and clarity.
CROSSOVER
The crossovers use high voltage polypropylene film wound capacitors and air core inductors at critical locations for optimum dispersion through a smaller acoustic source size within the crossover region.
The AE509 is a Mid Tweeter Mid/Bass (MTM) driver layout with a 2.5way crossover and the AE500 a 2 way crossover.
CABINET
These unique drivers are housed in our new 18mm Resonance Suppression Composite (RSC) cabinets, evolved from the prestigious Reference Series and featuring the same constrained layer composite to greatly reduce cabinet acoustic radiation, which would otherwise colour the sound.
Performance
The AE500 bookshelf speakers introduce cabinet technologies that they have developed over time and combined them with new carbon fibre speaker drivers. MD Mat Spandl comments: “We have spent considerable time developing the carbon fibre transducers and perfecting our unique cabinet technology.” The carbon fibre included in the new 25mm tweeter dome is much lighter and better damped than other, typically used, materials and so results in a fast, neutral sound.Acoustic Energy say that their aim is to make the speaker sound smoother and more transparent.
The first thing that will strike you about these little marvels is how open and detailed they sound and how they managed to image from way left and right of the speaker cabinets. This is something quite rare in a speaker at this price.Now a sizeable chunk of this magic comes from the carbon fibre drive units. Their very rigid but lightweight nature ensuring great mid-range definition and increased transient speed and clarity. Acoustic Energy have succeeded in their goal to make a smooth sounding loudspeaker, which is a great thing in this age where most companies make their speakers sound way too bright. This makes the AE500’s the type of loudspeaker that you can listen to for hours as they are not at all fatiguing.These speakers are a must listen if you are interested in a really high quality but still small solution.
